Friends of the NRA Fundraiser

This year the County Line Friends of the NRA fund raiser was held at a barn in nearby Herald. The barn is a lot bigger than the hall we rented for last year's fund raiser. But the acoustic was horrible. There were about the same number of people this year when compared to last year's event.

Everyone on my table agreed that the bar-be-cued tri-tip, salad and beads were delicious. Simple but superb.


For twenty dollars, you get a mug where there were between $20 - $100 worth of raffle tickets in it. Of course it is a game of chance and you do not know whether you have more than $20 worth of tickets when you buy a mug!

Silent auction items.

Jewelry on silent auction. There were a few pieces that I really liked and found it hard not to make a bid on them!

There were some really interesting items on auction. A professional auctioneer led the auction.

I had hoped that I would at least win one item this year. I bought a $20 ticket on the Sarah Palin Freedom Board, for a chance to win this gun.





I bought a $100 worth of raffle tickets and had hoped to win at least one of these beauties. Alas, Lady Luck was not with me that evening! :-(

Fortune in the ear lobes

It has been said, mostly by the Chinese, that those who possess thick ear lobes are destined for great luck and wealth.

One of my friends possesses such ear lobes. When she was a college student, many "towkays" commented on her ears. She did not understand what it was about her ears that the Chinese "towkays" saw as "banyak nasib" (very lucky). It was later on that we realized that they meant the shape of her ear lobes.

I think, for my friend, what the Chinese "towkays" saw in her fortune was certainly true. Recently, I visited my friend's new home and I was suitably impressed. I wished I was a better photographer and knew how to capture the beauty of her home much more clearly.






The house is quite close to a main road but you will understand why that fact didn't bother her.

This is the view from the balcony. Her husband loves to jet ski, so having a home that is just across from the beach is an asset for him.

My friend is married to a man who wasn't born into wealth. And neither is he a businessman who founded his fortune on his business acumen. He's a man who possesses a job skill that is in great demand, and he is willing to travel far to make that money ... what I call money earned through his own sweat.

I think my friend is blessed materially and financially, and the best part of it all is that neither she nor her husband stints on their wealth. They are generous to a fault.

Thursday's Ramblings

I love my new computer speakers! I played Duncan's favorite movie, Carz, on my computer and turned up the volume. I couldn't believe the sounds that came out of the speakers. It sounded like I had surround sound speakers instead of the flat panel under my flat screen monitor. As I write this entry, I have Il Divo playing on my computer and the sounds from the speakers don't sound all that bad either. Better than the speakers in my car, most definitely!

I picked up the book I had requested for at the library this morning. I also borrowed two Il Divo music CDs. I also found two books that Duncan and Denice might enjoy. Both books are by Dr Seuss called A B C, and Hop and Pop. AND, I was delighted to find The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes book! :-) I think I have about two Calvin and Hobbes books that I got from Borders. Probably this book that I just borrowed have some similar comic strips in them.

One thing I just discovered about the library lending policy is that I can borrow up to 50 items at any one time. Isn't that wonderful? Each item is on loan for three weeks and the best thing is I can extend the period by another three weeks (if there are no other persons requesting for any of them), and all this can be done online from home on my own computer!

Today is Picture Day at the kids' school. The last time they had Picture Day was last April. I still haven't done anything to those pictures and in two weeks I will have another lot! In fact I just gave my mother-in-law some of those pictures taken last spring! Heheh. No wonder my scrapbooking projects are at a standstill!

This morning I turned on my new TV. It's right there next to my computer, so why not turn it on, eh? I don't normally turn on my TV in the mornings, so except for the regular programs that I know are usually on, I don't know what else is on TV in the mornings. I was pleasantly surprised to see a knitting program, a scrapbooking program and a yoga program on one of the channels. Next time I'll remember to turn on the TV to this particular channel so I can catch some of the crafts programming.
